I’ve been a soldier and a sailor, a woodcutter and a calligrapher. I’ve sailed small boats across oceans and defended Colorado against counter-attack from the North Vietnamese. For the past 12 years I’ve been involved in almost every aspect of online marketing - web management, programming, bulk email, search engine advertising. My last gig was Marketing Manager for a small software company in Pioneer Square, Seattle. And then I came to Microsoft. Since 2005 I’ve worked as an account rep for clients of adCenter, Microsoft’s search marketing initiative, and then as project manager. The irony of working for Microsoft and writing about small business hasn’t escaped me. My interests remain rooted with small business, especially how to leverage the tremendous reach of search engine marketing for companies typically short of staff and technical expertise, use data to make the best choices among a confusing number of options and enhance the synergy between search engine advertising and web analytics.
