Microsoft.adCenter.Desktop has stopped working

I installed adCenter desktop around Dec 27 and it worked for a few days until about Jan 2, when I started getting this message when I try to launch it:

"Microsoft.adCenter.Desktop has stopped working

Windows is checking for a solution to the problem."

..and after a few seconds it changes to: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." (and then I press: Close Program)

One thing I noticed is that the problem started on the same day I downloaded and installed the adCenter Intelligence Excel plugin... might that have anything to do with it?  (the plugin works fine)

I also uninstalled both adCenter and the accompanying SQL Server and reinstalled, but I get the same error message.  I also tried uninstalling the Excel plugin, no difference.

I've called the Help number usually given here, provided a screenshot of the error messages, but all I got back was a list of the computer minimum requirements which mine meets. (I'm using Vista SP2  32bit) Replied again, but haven't heard back since.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Any suggestions?

    Hello Honda750,

Please Try the Following. Uninstall the Desktop, Then Delete the localstore after that uninstall the SQL Server in the ad and remove section in the Control Panel.

Then Log in to your adCenter account and download the adCenter Desktop in the Tools Section.

Here are the correct steps to reinstall the Desktop tool:

    1. Close the adCenter desktop Tool
    2. Open the "RUN" bar from the Start Menu. If you do not have the "Run" option on their menu, there is a 'hot-key' command they can use (WINKEY+R).
    3. In the "Run" bar, type in one of these 2 strings depending your operating system:
      Windows Vista: c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Apps\
      Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Apps\
    4. Once the directory loads, rename the "2.0" folder.
      example: 2.0____old

Reload the Desktop Tool. When the you launch the desktop tool, this will rebuild all of thelocal files and you will also have to download your entire account, this is similar to reformatting.

There is also the Localstores files that you can also remove, here is the locations for XP and Vista:

    1. Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft
      Windows Vista: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MAF
    2. Once the directory loads, rename the "Localstore" folder.
      example: Localstore____old"

Hope this helps, it has helped other users with similar issues.

    Thank you,

Ok thanks, here's the exact sequence of what I did:

    1. Control panel: uninstall AC desktop
    2. Control panel: uninstall SQL server
    3. Run: rename 2.0 folder > 2.0_old
    4. Run: rename Localstore > Localstore_old

    5. Rebooted for extra measure

When I logged into my AC account, the desktop tool is not available under the "Tools" tab there... so I downloaded and installed it from the usual page.

It installed and booted up fine, but when I get the popup to try to "Sign Into Adcenter Desktop" for the first time, my username is prepopped, but it's now telling me my password (the same AC password I just used) is invalid.  What's up?

Ditto - same problem here as well, for a while now.

Having spoken to someone at MSN Adcenter - they have said its a known problem and they are looking into it.

Must be quite a complex issue though, because it's taking some time for them to come up with a fix.
