Does AC Content Network use adgroup themes?

It's well known that for the Content Network of a certain other search engine, you put together adgroups of related keywords,  and that adgroup is assigned a "theme" which is placed against webpages of a similar "theme".

Does the Adcenter Content Network do this too?  (adgroup themes)

Or are the AC content network adgroups more like collections of individual keywords.. with no overall theme assigned... and the ads are placed against webpages based on an individual keyword within the adgroup?

Hello Honda750,

With Microsoft adCenter, you have two ways to display your ads to potential customers who use the Internet: Search Ads and Content Ads. When you run your ads on the content network, your ads are displayed on webpages with relevant content. As a result, you extend your advertising reach to a broader segment of your target audience.

By default, ad groups are configured to display ads on both the search and content networks.

Microsoft adCenter is based on relevancy so the system will recongizes what you are advertising and display your ads accordingly. For example if you are selling "honda parts" it will not display your ads on any health related sites.

I hope this answers your question.

Thank you,
Microsoft Advertising Support

Hi Stevo604,

Thank you for your post.

The information that Carolyn provided above is still true. Our content ads do not use ad group keywords to generate themes. I have provided a link below that goes more in depth to how content advertising works and also gives steps to help you succeed in content advertising.

Ok thanks, but I'm still trying to understand... does AC content network create a "theme" for an adgroup composed of similar keywords? (and then places it on webpages whose content is relevant to this overall theme?)

If not, then in theory (for the content network) we could put all our keywords into one big adgroup and it wouldn't make any difference?

    Hi Honda750,

We checked with the Content Ads team on this to get more info for you. No, Content Ads does not use ad group keywords to generate themes. We do compare the advertiser’s landing page to the publisher page to see that they have similar themes. This helps provide more relevant matches at the page level.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for writing!

    Hi Carolyn,

Is it still true that AC content ads don't use keywords to create themes? Is there a best practices guide to setting up content network campaigns on AC? It seems like it is very different from Adwords.

    Thanks

    Hi Britt,

Thanks for the info and I am happy to see you are expanding the content network into Canada.
