Well this is what happened. As they say, there is probably a perfectly logical explanation. Anyone know what I need to do?

    After some advice from support:

I have successfully installed Advertising Intelligence using Internet Explorer rather than Firefox. I also noted that I couldn’t log in with my Windows id, but I created a new user for myself in adCenter and that worked just fine.

I'm getting the exact same error. The error text provided below. Downloading the setup.exe through IE doesn't help (and I'm not sure why that would have made a difference). Any other suggestions?

This was a while ago, but I think I needed to 'Run' the download in IE rather than 'Save', whereas Firefox didn't want to do this. I'll post again if my recollection of the issue improves.

Thanks Mike, I tried "Run" too.. didn't wiork.

And by the way, the error messages keep switching between what I posted above and this

    ------------------

Prerequisite check for system component Microsoft Advertising Intelligence failed with the following error message:
"Microsoft Excel 2007 is not available on this computer.  Obtain and install Microsoft Excel 2007."

See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\manas.m\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD9D21.tmp\install.log' for more information.

    ------------------

I've excel 2007 by the way and even got it reinstalled after getting this error earlier. Still same problem :-(

Anyone from Microsoft support team monitoring these questions?

    Hi Manas,

I've fwded this thread along to some of the folks on the MAI team to see if they're able to provide any insight.  I'll report back as soon as I hear from them.

    Thanks!

Just one additional details. I'm using Windows-7 OS . My IT team says that might be the problem. Some of my colleagues who are using XP were able to install successfully.

    manas,

I was using XP at the time so that may not be the problem, here is the response I recieved at the time from Microsoft. I hope this helps:

    <..

    Dear Mike,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Advertising Support, my name is Sherry.

I understand that you are experiencing an error when trying to run the Microsoft Advertising Intelligence add-on. I am happy to assist you with this today.

The Microsoft Advertising Intelligence tool is a Microsoft Excel add-on and there are some system requirements that need to be met for the tool to function completely. Before we get started, would I be able to get your account information, such as your username or account number (located under the accounts and billing tab) so I can ensure the account is set up correctly and activated for the Microsoft Advertising Intelligence tool?

In order for the Microsoft Advertising Intelligence tool to install and function on your computer please confirm these requirements are met:

    -          You are installing the software as an administrator on your computer

    -          You already have Microsoft Excel 2007 installed

    -          Excel 2007 is closed at the time of installation

    -          Any earlier version of Microsoft Advertising Intelligence has been manually removed from your computer

    -          You must have an active internet connection

There are further requirements, and I will provide you with a link to view these requirements in more detail. Please also ensure at time of the install that you are using a PC, and downloading the tool from an Internet Explorer browser.  In the link below, is also a detailed installation guide.

I hope I was able to address your concern and that you find some of this information useful. I would be more than happy to continue working with you to ensure this issue is resolved. If you have any further questions, or encounter any further errors please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you feel this information has resolved the issue to your satisfaction, could you kindly reply to this email indicating permission to close the case? If you feel the issue has not been fully resolved, could you kindly reply to this email with an update of the situation and I will continue my investigation accordingly.

Your reference number for this interaction is: 1126836474.

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Advertising.

    Sincerely,

    Sherry (Ext xxxxxx)

I also set up a proper AdCenter Account at the time rather than using the Microsoft ID, but I am unsure as to whether this was related. Manual removal may have been an issue as well.

    Regards

    Mike

    Hi manas,

I wanted to check in on this to see if Mike's info has been helpful?  Let me know... if not, I think your best course of action is to contact support so someone can investigate this for you as my MAI contact is out of the office this week.

    Thanks!
