Help! Hardly getting any impressions even for EXTREMELY popular search term

Hi.

I've just started using Adcenter in the past few days, after using Google's Adwords exclusively in the past. I'd heard good things about Adcenter so I thought I would give it a try.

The problem I'm having at the moment, is that I am hardly getting any impressions for my keywords at all.

I appreciate the search volume is going to be much less than over in Google, but still, I expect the impressions to be greater based on the number of searches given in the keyword tool.

24 hours ago, I thought I would just throw an ad up for a very broad keyword just to see if I got more impressions.

I used the keyword 'Disney'.

According to the tool, the number of searches last month was 335,357. Great! That's around 11,000 searches per day. I'm bound to see some impressions for this.

I had to wait a while for my keyword to be approved (I assume because it's a trademark, and it needs to be checked I'm not doing any untoward). The campaign was approved and I was set to go.

I'd set my monthly budget at £50, and my keyword bid at £0.05. Even at this low bid, I was being told I'd get 443 clicks.

I was just direct linking to a page for the purpose of testing, before going to the effort of creating a site.

So, 24 hours later, the results are:

6 impressions

0 clicks

5.67 - average position

What am I doing wrong?

Surely a generic keyword such as this should get many more impressions than this. I'm based in the UK, but I checked the bing.com site, set my country to United States, did a search for 'Disney' and there's only 1 or 2 ads showing, but not mine. So, how I get an average position of 5.67 I don't know.

I don't even particularly want to promote stuff to do with Disney, but I'm getting so frustrated at not getting many impressions that I just wanted to test a popular search term.

I really want to stick with Adcenter and get this right, but I'm clearly doing something wrong somewhere.

Can anyone help? I've been through the troubleshooting videos, but still can't see where I'm going wrong.

kind regards,

Nick

    Hi Nick,

What are you selling or promoting? If you could provide me with your account information I would be happy to look into what may be causing the issue.

In general, there are a few thing could have caused your low impression count:

    1. Quality of the ad copy

    2. Relevancy of your landing page to the search term & ad copy

    3. Bid price

The factors above are the main factors that you can control to help adCenter determine whether or not to serve your ad.

As a best practice, for search engine marketing, the first number of impressions (hundreds or thousands) are extremely important to build a good CTR history, a component into the overall quality score of the ad-keyword combination. Hence, I usually recommend starting your bids high and pay that premium to build that history. In the long run, most people will see a higher ROI because of it.

    Hello Nick,

Thanks for the account number. I have looked into your account and I found that  your ads is currently not serving for keyword = Disney because of your landing page.

Your landing page is mostly images and not crawlable by our crawelers. The links to Verisign and other membership are not working as they are apart of a larger image. Lastly, I do not see a privacy notice.

I would recommend that you revamped the landing page. If you want to get some assistance to help you with this, I believe the below is the contact information for adCenter client support:

    Thanks Jason.

I appreciate you taking the time to look at this. As I said, I was only testing so just used a direct link to an offer.

I'll create a landing page and try again.

Just out of interest though, why did I get some impressions if the page was not crawlable? Surely I should have received zero impressions?

Finally, is direct linking accepted by Adcenter (assuming the landing page comes up to scratch)? I know Google frown on this, but I would rather direct link initially and then build a site only if I see some conversions.

    regards,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

In regards to direct link, I am guessing that you are an affiliate of a larger company. In that case, I would suggest that you contact your affiliate manager, or read the T&Cs. I believe adCenter will still allow you to serve if you use a direct link.

In regards to why you recieve some impressions for the keyword = Disney that is because adCenter will attempt to crawl your page a few times, and will only crawl after you have start to recieve impressions. So you will get some impressions.

I also want to make a correction with the crawable comment. Your page is still crawable, but because it is mostly images, adCenter is not able to understand what those images are. Hence, adCenter will treat your page as having a low relevance score will affect your competitive in the marketplace, causing your ad not to serve.

    Cheers,

    Jason
