Grow your business by advertising on bing, MSN, Xbox, and more!
As mentioned on Friday, we're compiling a step-by- step series of articles on paid search. This is the first installment of the series. In this first post I will explain the difference between paid and organic search. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Stay tuned to our 'back to basics PPC' series which we hope will make it easy for you to set up and run a successful campaign.
Search engines are a window to the web - our means of finding the right leads to the information we need. When a searcher performs a search query, two different types of results show up in the search engine results page (SERP);
Organic Listings These are generated by an algorithm and a set of rules devised by the search engine to find the most relevant results on the web. The task of attempting to help a website rank higher in the SERP when certain keywords are typed in is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Paid Listings These are sponsored links, which are paid for per click by advertisers.
Paid search is in essence an auction for advertising space on a SERP. Advertisers place bids on how much they are willing to pay the search engine for a click-through to their website. The bids help determine where the advertiser's ad appears, from the top position, all the way down through the right hand side of the page. The position of an ad is also influenced by the relevancy of the advert to the keyword.
When setting up a paid search account on bing.com, the first thing you would need to think about is how you would like to group together your range of products/services, and what keywords would best fit what your company offers. A good paid search account has well organized Campaigns and Ad Groups, and well written ads. More info on all of this and more will be available for you to learn in this following blog series, so stay tuned!
