Grow your business by advertising on bing, MSN, Xbox, and more!
You know how we're always asking you guys for feedback, feature requests and any other thoughts you'd like to share with us about adCenter? We keep on you about that stuff so that we can get the information you share with us in front of the people who're actively working on improving the advertiser experience, which moves us closer to being able to make announcements like this one:
You can now add thousands of negative keywords at the campaign and ad group levels!
BUT... (there's always a but, isn't there?)...you'll need to delete negative keywords at the keyword level as the list limit has not been expanded there yet. Doing so will also keep your keyword-level negatives from overriding your newly expanded lists at the higher levels.
To get started with taking advantage of this new functionality, upload your expanded lists of negative keywords at the campaign or ad group level with the negative keywords migration wizard in the Desktop (Beta) and then remove your keyword-level negatives. Unless, of course, you're perfectly happy with your campaigns as they are now and don't need the increased capacity for negatives at the higher levels, then there's no action you need to take at all.
For more on negative keywords, you may find these previous posts by Nora Flansburg helpful (note that all these were written prior to this announcement, so be cognizant of this update as the latest news):

Is the limit of 100 characters or less for each individual negative keyword still in effect?
Hi Simon,
Yes, the 100 character limit is still in effect. Please let me know if you have any other questions :-).
Thanks!
Hi Tina,
This is great. However, I have run into a thorny problem with excluding web sites from the content network. I have tried to exclude mail.live.com and scout.com and it's not working. I spoke to a support rep and they said that domains with an * cannot be excluded.
Those domains severely underperform in my content campaign and I must exclude them. I guess a tech team is looking into the issue. My case #1137749788.
I'm just shocked that Microsoft would block advertisers from excluding certain domains. The whole point is to optimize around the best performing sites, keywords, ads, etc.
Paul
What about the 1022 length character limit?
as stated in msdn.microsoft.com/.../ee703982.aspx
Because recently we faced an issue where GetCampaignsByAccountId is failing due to exceeded limit of allowed campaigns with more than maximum negative keywords.
Could you please elaborate sometime on this aspect?
Hi Paul,
Just an FYI that I checked in with our support staff on this today, they're investigating to see where we are on it now. Hopefully I'll be able to report back with a resolution on it soon!
Hi Tina, this is a very welcome addition to AdCenter. You say that you can add "thousands" to the campaign level. Could you tell me how many that is? 2,000? 50,000? Also, since you can still have them on the AdGroup level, how many can you have there as well? Thank you!!
Paul: Have you been contacted by support about this issue? I did send your comment along and will follow up on it for you if you haven't been in touch with anyone about it yet.
Smita: The 1022 character length is what was increased... let me pass your comment along to our API support staff for review. I'll report back once I get a response from them.
Greg: Let me look into this and see if I can get an exact number for you... sit tight! :-)
Hi Tina - A lady in Support has been working with me on it. I have a case # and the problem has been with the Technical team for a few weeks ago. They came back once with a fix, which didn't work, so it got pushed back to Technical again. It's been about 10 days since any update. I called again this AM asking about it. I find it hard to believe that no advertiser has noticed this problem of not being able to exclude a web site that starts with an * in the placement report. Is it possible that advertisers may not be reviewing and optimizing their content placements very much and haven't noticed that some of these sites can't be excluded successfully?
Paul: Thanks for the update... let me ping Support and see if they have any updates on this.
Greg: I haven't forgotten about you! I've got your request in with the folks who'd be able to answer this. While I have you here, do you have a dedicated rep? They might be able to help track this down as well.
Hi Greg,
Just following up on this: you should have a message from our support staff in your voicemail. Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks! :-)
Hi Tina: I have heard back. Tech team agrees that it's a bug and needs to be fixed. It's scheduled for the next software update to fix it, so I'm told.
Tina,
Is there any intention of introducing negative matching options a la Adwords - negative broad/phrase/exact?
I use these options extensively in Adwords to help me better target my ads, which greatly helps me increase long-term spend, and also brings greater value to searchers as the ads are more targeted to their search.
Please let me know if we can expect this functionality any time soon.
Cheers,
Jeremy
@ Jeremy - Currently we do not have this feature. I am going to submit a feature request on your behalf. Due to the fact that there has been other advertisers that have been wanting the same option. Thank you for your feedback.

Hello Jeremy,
Currently we do not have an ETA for this feature but I have submitted a feature request so that this can be considered for future releases and upgrades.
Thank you.
Hi Jeremy,
I passed your comment along to the release planning team and they requested that I ask a couple of questions:
1.) Which negative match types are you currently using the majority of the time with Ad Words?
2.) Do you import these into adCenter and then adjust or are you managing the negative keywords unique to your adCenter campaigns?
They also asked that I let you know that they are aware of this feature request and are prioritizing it, although we don't have a committed release date yet.
