Country, State/Province, Metro Area and City Codes for Microsoft adCenter API V6

posted Tue, Jun 23 2009

Hi All,

The codes that Microsoft adCenter API Version 6 uses for targeting ad groups or campaigns to specific countries/regions are documented at Country Codes.

If you want to see the codes for states/provinces within a country, click the specific country within the Country Codes topic. For example, United States.

Within a country topic, you can click the states/provinces to determine the metro area codes and city codes. For example, within the California (United States) topic, you'll see metro area codes for Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Diego (and other metro areas), and you'll also see the cities and city codes within those metro areas.

For more information about targeting by country, state/province, metro area and city, and also by business and geographical location, see Location Targeting.

adCenter API V5 supported country and metro area targeting (but not state/province and city targeting). Note that V5 used numeric values for country and metro areas codes, while V6 uses text string codes for the countries, states/provinces, metro areas, and cities.

If you would like the raw XML used for the country, state/province, metro area and city codes, it is available for download at http://community.microsoftadvertising.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Components.SiteFiles/APIDOC/LocationsXML_5F00_Prod_5F00_UTF8.zip. This data was updated on July 17, 2009. Ensure you are using only this version of the file.

Note that the raw XML contains the V6 codes as well as the V5 metro area numeric codes. For example, in the snippet below taken from the raw XML, the code value "Calgary, AB CA" is the Version 6 metro area code for Calgary, while the MetroAreaId value "148315336687484928" is the Version 5 metro area code for Calgary. The numeric MetroAreaId values do not apply to V6.

    <MetroArea Name="Calgary" Code="Calgary, AB CA" MetroAreaId="148315336687484928">

Thank you.
