Microsoft In-App Advertising: Now More Mobile Developers Can Make Money

posted Tue, Sep 27 2011

You requested it. We listened! International expansion for developer onboarding and payouts has been the number one requested feature for the Microsoft Advertising solution for Windows Phone app developers. Today, we expanded our international footprint beyond the United States and can now support developers in eleven additional countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and United Kingdom.

So, what does this mean? It means that more Windows Phone app developers can make money from in-app advertising by taking advantage of Microsoft Advertising Solution, and get paid locally in their country. The Microsoft Advertising solution for Windows Phone apps has been shown to make more money for Windows Phone app developers than other solutions in the market… up to 71% more in a recent study!

Can you really make money here? Yes, we have case studies to prove it. Click here to read about a developer monetizing their app using the Microsoft In-App Advertising Solution. As a developer, you will need to make sure your account information has the relevant information required for payment. Once advertising revenue reaches the minimum amount required for payout (see table below), Microsoft will start sending money your way.

Notes: These eleven countries represent the first wave of expansion, and we are working to add more countries soon. We will share details as we get closer to release.

Still Quick and Easy. In addition, our simple, drag-and-drop ad controls (XNA and Sliverlight) are built right into the Windows Phone SDK, combined with the pubCenter self-serve sign-up, reporting and automated payouts, Microsoft Advertising solution ensures seamless experience for developers.

Why wait? Bring ads to your app today! We encourage you to use Microsoft advertising solution today, by integrating our ad controls into your app and setting up an account in pubCenter. After your app goes live in the marketplace and users start to use it, you will see how your revenue grows through pubCenter real-time reporting.

This information is one important story highlighted in the Windows Phone Developer Blog by Todd Brix. Have questions? Check out the pubCenter for Mobile Forum. To send us feedback and have your voice heard, please contact psupport@microsoft.com.

Can developers who already have accounts and accumulated revenue get paid outside USA or they need a new account?

What happened to the promised 18 new countries? Will the remaining 7 (such as Sweden) still be rolled out before the end of the year or has this changed?

I think this is great. They should open the channels of distribution as wide as they can, enabling developers to make more money from more countries. Additionally, ensuring the right ad units that drive revenue from large brands and fill rates at scale. I know we are about finished with our MSFT SDK, and we are excited to this take flight. Its about time that MSFT is in the game, and we hope they go far. - Giancarlo Maniaci, TapIt.com

When will Austria be on the list of supported markets? Since Germany is already supported, is it possible to create an account in germany to get your payout this way?

I'd like to know when Brazil will be on the list, please.

Thank you for the feedback.  Let me try and answer the questions above:

Q: Can developers who already have accounts and accumulated revenue get paid outside the USA or do they need a new account?

A: Developers that accumulated revenue will get paid, however they must open a new account in pubCenter in the process.  We sent direct emails to those developers explaining the process.  If you did not receive an email please contact psupport@microsoft.com directly.

Q: What happened to the promised 18 new countries? Will the remaining 7 (such as Sweden) still be rolled out before the end of the year or has this changed?  What about Brazil, Poland, Denmark and Austria?

A: We are working hard to support more countries and plan to share more information as we get closer to release date.

Q: I am a developer based in the UK and was using the PubCenter within the US to deliver ads. How do I transfer that account to the UK?

A: Developers will need to create a new account.  Here are the steps to make that change:

    1. Create a new Pubcenter account using a new Windows Live ID and select your country and the currency in which you wish to get paid.

    2. Complete all required fields for your account that are located under the pubCenter account information payment tab.

    3. Within your new account, create a new ad unit.

    4. Update the ad-supported application you have published in the Windows Phone Marketplace with the new ad unit ID.

    5. Submit the updated apps to Windows Phone Marketplace via AppHub.

If you have further questions, please contact psupport@microsoft.com.  We are happy to help.
