Ben Stiller wearing his Stillerstrong headband onstage at Cannes 2010
It was a one-person-in, one-person-out policy at the Debussy Theatre on Tuesday for the Yahoo!, Ben Stiller and Jeff Goodby seminar. What would this Frat Pack member have to say about digital advertising as it is now and where it’s going?
As an actor, Ben believes that storytelling still needs experts. However, the ability to publish almost instantly and cheaply has lead to a change in the creative processed used at Hollywood production houses and creative individuals alike.
When asked by Yahoo! CMO Elisa Steele about his view on digital, Ben told us that he’s not necessarily a fan of 3D and jokingly asked if comedy is funnier in this format. He is a fan of Twitter for short-form interactivity and thinks that digital is great for the production and consumption of short-form content. His parents have embraced this by teaming up with Yahoo! to create an online show that focuses on the news of the day.
At the end, he asked the audience to participate in helping his charity Stillerstrong, a concept which he claims to have thought up of himself. For this particular exercise, he got the audience to pose with him for a photo of them wearing his headband. For every person who viewed this photo online, $1 was donated by Yahoo! to help build a school in Haiti. It’s fantastic to see that they have broken through the original 50,000 target.
