Yahoo! and Microsoft Search Alliance News: Organic Search Update on the Bing Blog

posted Tue, Aug 24 2010

Have you been to the Bing Blog yet today?

They’ve posted some big news related to last week’s Search Alliance announcement about how the transition would soon begin where Bing would start to power the English language organic search results on Yahoo! Search in the U.S. and Canada.

Can you guess what today’s announcement is?  Probably, but I’m going to tell you anyway.  This morning, Bing and Yahoo! announced that Yahoo!’s English language search results in the US and Canada are being powered by Bing.

For all you last-minute-scramble types out there, if you haven’t already started making your sites spiffy with the latest tried and true search engine optimization (SEO) tactics, you might find some helpful tips in the posts here on the Microsoft Advertising Community site that have been tagged as relevant to SEO efforts.

Also worth mentioning is that you should definitely check out the Bing Webmaster Tools page if you haven’t done so already; they’ve got some really helpful resources over there, like how you can submit your site/sitemap to Bing, SEO strategies specific to what works best with Bing and guidance on how to add a Bing search box to your site

    Hi SEO Company,

Yes, that is correct, but the paid search transition that will serve adCenter ads on Yahoo! properties won't begin mid-October and should wrap up by the end of that month.  You can find more detailed information at www.searchalliance.com or in the transition center: community.microsoftadvertising.com/.../visit-the-transition-center-on-the-microsoft-advertising-site-for-faqs-feature-comparisons-and-more.aspx

Right now advertisers have the option to move their campaigns from Yahoo! Search Marketing over to adCenter prior to when the switch will go into effect next month.  Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thanks! :-)

    Hi Tina,

Thanks for your information. In past I have used Yahoo! SEM campaigns. But never used Adcenter campaigns, but in future we have a plan to post Ads in both network simultaneously. Both means yahoo and MS.

Is Bing/Yahoo offering up a publisher service like Google AdSense?  I can't seem to find a link for it anywhere?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

There is a publisher service, but it's a closed pilot right now: pubcenter.microsoft.com  You can use that link to check back for updates on when it will be open.

    Thanks!

    Hi Tina,

Thanks for the information.  I have always wanted Microsoft to partner with one of the giant search engines like Google or Yahoo.  Although partnering with Google would have been great because of the local searches, but I guess Yahoo isn't that bad either.

I use focused targeted keyword(s) to get most of my customers from local search through Google because Yahoo data, as at Sep. 2010 was not that great for local searches.  Bing on the other hand is great for corporate businesses but not good for "ma" and "pa" local stores that really bring in the fresh mint called the almighty "$".  My business is not that big.  My target customers are the local populace, the local businesses and the aspiring SMB(s).

In summary, I am more than grateful for the Bing and Yahoo merger as this will increase my organic search and help reduce my cost for advertisement.  I can finally channel my revenue into more projects like increasing my budget in the IT section, and maybe reducing some of the hats I wear all by myself :)

    Microsoft Rocks!

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi iCELL,

The good news is yes, it's called pubCenter... the bad news is it's a closed pilot for the time being. I'm sorry I don't have any more information than this, but you can always bookmark the site and check back for updates: pubcenter.microsoft.com

    Thanks!
