Global Search Market Grows 46% in 2009 – Microsoft's Bing Grows 70%

posted Mon, Jan 25 2010

Always nice to come in on a Monday morning to see numbers like these.

Friday saw a press release from comScore that shows December 2009 was a bumper month for the search industry, with consumers around the world conducting a phenomenal 131 billion searches.

The US took the lion’s share with China, Japan and the UK following them with impressive percentage changes compared with December 2008.

Russia stands out as having huge potential for marketers wanting to tap into a new market, given their 92% growth to 3.3 billion queries.

Of the Top 10 Search Properties, we’re obviously pleased that our sites, with the launch of Bing, saw the highest leap of 70% to just over 4 billion searches.

This news, coupled with last week’s fabulous display network growth, certainly gives us great impetuous to carry on the good work into 2010 and beyond!

Cheers

The results look great but where is all the extra traffic coming from the top 10 search properties all showed insane growth, is it just an increase in the multiple search queries by the same users?

    Congratulations, Mel.

One of the things these numbers don't show, is the quality of MS Adcenter and Bing search results.

I had excellent results with MS Adcenter compared to Yahoo and Google Adwords in my testing trials last quarter 2009.  I don't know if the average user here has higher education levels, or what the demographic difference is, but as far as information products sales,  I'd rather spend my dollars here than anywhere else. Super high quality of searchers.

Thanks Larry - we've done some analysis in the UK which talks to the quality - community.microsoftadvertising.com/.../quality-of-the-uk-live-search-click.aspx - pre-Bing obviously!
