Microsoft adCenter Fall 2009 Upgrade: Improvements and New Features

posted Mon, Nov 09 2009

The adCenter Fall 2009 Upgrade includes several improvements that have consistently been requested in the feedback we've received.  If you have feature requests, suggestions or comments about adCenter that you'd like to pass along to the powers that be, visit Carolyn's post, Share Your adCenter Feedback and Feature Requests, for guidance on how to get in touch.

Reporting Improvements

You asked for it and we're delivering it!  We're happy to announce that the adCenter Fall 2009 Upgrade will include a new Search Query Performance Report.  You can now select this report type to learn which user queries users are resulting in a click to your ad.  This report should be particularly helpful in determining which keywords are aligned with actual user queries as well as in identifying possible negative keywords.

Relationship and Account Management Improvements

With the adCenter Fall Upgrade, professional search engine marketers (SEMs) and agencies will find managing multiple accounts to be a bit smoother.  Going forward, existing adCenter advertisers will be able to invite agencies and SEMs to access and manage their campaigns, thereby eliminating the need for advertising reps to maintain different sets of sign in credentials for each of their clients.

Establish/Terminate Relationships - When onboarding a new client who already has an adCenter account, the new client can grant access to their SEM or agency by simply sending them an invitation from the "Agency Management" tab under the "Accounts and Billing" tab in adCenter.  Terminating an existing relationship is done with just a single click on that same tab.  Please note that this new functionality does not include the ability to isolate specific accounts or campaigns by agency; the agency will have access to view all accounts/campaigns once the invitation has been accepted.

Account Management - Until now, agencies and SEMs who managed accounts for multiple clients often had to log out of adCenter with one set of credentials and log back in with another set.  The adCenter Fall 2009 Upgrade includes the addition of a new "Customer Selection" page that offers users the ability to either select clients from a list or search for them.

New Feature: Default Time Zones

One of the most requested features in the adCenter Fall 2009 Upgrade is the ability to set a default timezone at the account level.  Going forward this should help relieve any issues with billing and reporting data not being in alignment.  Note that this feature requires a campaign-level time zone to be selected if a default time zone is not entered at the account level.

New Feature: Ad Preview Tool

The Ad Preview Tool was actually released ahead of the adCenter Fall 2009 Upgrade (for more information, see the announcement), but it's worth nothing that after the upgrade is complete it will be moved from the "Campaigns" tab to the newly added "Tools" tab in adCenter.

Stay tuned for more information on what the Fall 2009 Upgrade means for the adCenter DesktopBeta.

As a search engine marketer that manages multiple accounts, will I need to create/open my own adcenter account in order to link to all my clients? I tried searching help but couldn't find anything about Establish/Terminate Relationships

Please remember that not all readers are familiar with the tech lingo or abbreviations. It is customary that the first time an author uses an abbreviation, he/she place after it, in parenthesis, the full name. After that, abbreviation can be used freely, without explanation.

    Thank you for the post.

PS After I red your post and read Leslie's comment I deducted that SEM must stand for search engine marketer.

Leslie: I have looked into this for you and the short answer is that yes, you will need to create your own adCenter account before your clients can invite you to manage their accounts.  As soon as I have the direct links to the adCenter Help files with more detailed information, I will post another comment.

Mediaearth: Unfortunately conversion tracking was not included in the Fall 2009 release, but please do submit any questions or comments about including it in future releases via the adCenter Feedback form: feedback.adcenter.microsoft.com/default.aspx   What's included in each release is a direct result of customer feedback.  I'm sorry, I don't have any information on partnerships at this time, but you may be interested in keeping up with Atlas via their new blog here on the Community site: community.microsoftadvertising.com/.../Default.aspx

George:  Thank you for your feedback (I'm going to make the adjustment as soon as I'm finished responding), I do typically spell out each acronym at first mention, but this particular instance slipped by... thanks for reading and please do continue to share your thoughts both in comments and on the forums! :-)

    Hi,

To me, the most important improvement is the Time Zone upgrade. I've experienced so many times getting a schedule report at the end of the day, while I needed it for the morning :)

Thank you and continue your great jobs !!

    HI there,

I've created a campaign, but how do I update the time zone. I've got West Coast USA and I want east Coast Australia!

  • Wed, Mar 17 2010 01:20PM

    Hi Mike,

Unfortunately the time zone is set in stone once a campaign has been created.  The only way to adjust it is to start over and ensure that you've got the right setting as you're going through the campaign set up process.

For future reference, this help file outlines campaign settings that are adjustable: help.live.com/help.aspx

I hope this was helpful, though probably not the news you wanted to hear :-(.
