Announcing the New Search Brand from Microsoft: Bing

posted Thu, May 28 2009

Wow, have the rumors been flying lately about Microsoft’s new search service! Well, we’re excited to report that today at the All Things Digital conference, Steve Ballmer announced the impending arrival of Bing. Bing is a new kind of search engine, designed to do more than find search results. It’s a Decision Engine designed to help consumers cut through Internet clutter to help them make faster, more informed decisions.

For more information on Bing, please check out the main search blog. Stay tuned here on this blog for more details on what this means for you, our advertisers, in the next few days. In the meantime you can visit http://www.decisionengine.com and follow us on twitter (@Bing).

Update: Check out Steve Ballmer's interview at All Things Digital where he talks about the new brand and you can catch a demo.

I don't get it... why did they get such a stupid name??? They should have bought something like find.com

The name is fine with me. What is important are the results. From what I've seen they offer a little too much information. It makes it so you don't even have to go to the site. That could be great for some users.

Oh well, I wait till June 3rd before I give my final opinion.

Yeah, with a silly name like "bing" - they'll certainly never be as good as "google."

bad, very bad, what a waste of effort... The secret of a search engine is to get to the SITE you want, and NOT spend time on the site you don't want.

This does not get us where we want to go AT ALL.

The majority of searches by far are for specific names that we already 'know', in otherwords, we already have a preferred airline, we know that french restaruant we want to eat in, we know where that special offer is at Walmarts.

    So take us there.

Thanks for the comments everyone - there's no going back on the name now!

We think it has a nice ring and it has resonated positively in all the research we've done up until launch.

Do wait to see the new engine when it starts rolling out over the next week or so.

It has been designed to help consumers find what they're looking for faster and more efficiently then ever before.

Check out the interview with Steve Ballmer for more on the name and a demo of some of the new features:

It reminds me of the Friends Episode - Mr & Mrs Bing!

Maybe they'll be a Chandler theme with a giant picture of him in the background?

Looking forward to seeing it though!
